Former gatehouse at Universal Studios UK begins demolition

Demolition work on the former gatehouse at the site of Universal Studios UK (formally Kempston Hardwick Brickworks) has today begun.

Images posted by Wandering Northerner show cherry pickers and contractors peeling away the roof as part of the initial stages of work.

The location has various protection notices due to the discovery of bat roosts housed within. Demolition will be carried out in a controlled and considered approach in accordance to guidance with Natural England.

The gatehouse is an iconic piece of architecture on the former brickworks location, used for several key functions during the sites previous operational period.

Demolition of this structure marks a significant step in the redevelopment of this land into what will soon become a world class destination resort.
